Sonny Lee Class of 1999
Dr. Sonny Lee was born in Korea and came to America in 1978. He is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of G.A.I.D.C. - Great American International Development Corporation. He is currently developing a 2.1 billion dollar commercial project in Korea to include: a major world class theme park, recreational amenities, 36-hole championship golf course, retail complex, 5 major resort hotels, and major film and television production studios.
At the age of 19, Sonny was the youngest member to be inducted into the Korean-Danish Society, an honorable, diplomatic organization, established to enhance relationships between Korean and Scandinavian members: Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
Sonny received his BBA/MBA from Pace University and earned a Ph.D. -in Marketing from Pacific Coast University. He is married with two children, and resides in New Jersey.
Sonny provided 26 round trip tickets in 2001 from Ulaan Baatar in Mongolia to New York for the participants of the Mongolian Festival in New York and Washington, DC.

Greg is from Maryland and received a degree in Business Administration from Loyola College in Maryland. He moved to New York in 1999 and he joined our club to meet people and to serve the community in April of 2009.Greg is with the Financial Planning & Insurance for MetLife’s Strategic Planning Group, a unique division of MetLife focusing on Financial Planning, wealth accumulation, and protection strategies. At MetLife, he also promotes the MetLife Foundation for Kids, and work with specialists at the METDESK, (MetLife’s Division of Estate Planning for Special Kids.) Priour to joing MetLife, Greg was a trader on Wall Street for ten years. His goal is to live a life of significance, and help others take the “if” out of Life, by offering peace of mind and education and that one day all children will be living in a better world with better education and health care for all.Greg is also a supporter a patron of the arts, especially MoMA, and a supporter of alternative green energy. He also supports We Can Solve It .org, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Light the Night , UNICEF, and The Living Room a shelter in the Bronx.Greg is also passionate about sailing, soccer, photography, tennis and golf. In fact, aafter ten years on Wall Street as a trader, Greg saved up to go sailing around the world. He sold everything to simplify his life, and he and his buddy, Thomas Buchanan, sailed from New York to Canada, then back to NYC for a test run of his new 46 footer sail boat. Soon afterward, they set sail for Bermuda on November 17, 2007. At Bermuda, Greg was met by his fiance, Heidi, to celebrate Thanksgiving. They then headed to St. Martin, Trinidad, Venezuela, then Panama. Unfortunately, with a five-week unexpected delay at Panama, they made the tough decision to postpone the Pacific crossing until another time, as it would have put them sailing in the Typhoon season. As a result, they then headed to the Cayman Islands, Mexico, the Dry Tortugas, and finally headed up the East coast, finishing at Annapolis, MD in July 2008. At the end of their journey, Greg and Thomas sailed over 8000 nautical miles and visited 22 countries.

Takako Johnson Class of 1989 is a real estate executive specializing is office leasing. Takako has been a long term advocate of our Club's Young Girl Education Program. In many countries young girls can’t get a decent education. Even more disturbing is that in some countries young girl are sold by their parents into prostitution. The program that Takako chairs is designed to prevent young girls from becoming victims of human trafficking by providing money to the girl’s parents to continue their education.
Currently the Rotary Club of New York is sponsoring twenty girls in Cambodia. Each girl receives $113 per year so they may continue their education. The local Girl Scout manages the fund. Every quarter they distribute the money to the girls parents.

Dieter Kemp, Chairman of DPK Consulting Inc, is a business and marketing consultant to Japanese, German and U.S. companies in the area of food, fashion, fine art, and cosmetics. Mr. Kemp began his career in real estate development and investment, and has been a director and shareholder of various companies over the past 30 years. He has worked in Germany, France, Kuwait, London and the U.S., and has a wide-range of business interests in Asia and the Middle East. As a marketing entrepreneur, he has been instrumental in launching many products to overseas markets; most notably, he was behind the huge international success of the Wonder Bra, which he aided to introduce in Japan and Korea. Mr. Kemp’s recent appoint as Chairman of the Board of Peter James Gallery is to develop the company’s interests in the Middle East and Asia. .
Salih Kilinc " Kamu" Class of 2007
Kamu is the CEO of SKALA International Holding which is the distributor of various Corporations at Middle East including Turkey, Israel, Azerbaijan, Kirgishistan and Turkmenistan. These Corporations are Nikon Optical Instruments from Japan, Spectra Precision from USA and Thales from France. SKALA provides complete electronics, optical and mechanical solutions to various customers including both government and private enterprises. SKALA also have a manufacturing facility at China.
Kamu likes golf and fishing and is also a private pilot, and dreams to travel the entire world with his own aircraft one day.
During his activities at Kale Rotary Club at Ankara – Turkey, Kamu worked at various projects, including the supply of an Ambulance by a joint activity with a Rotary Club at Frankfurt-Germany. He also successfully worked on supplying sufficient funding for the reconstruction of a primary school after the main earth-quake which happened on year 2000 at Turkey. He is married and has son a young son.
Josef Klee Class of 1977
For over a decade, NY Rotarian Josef Klee, a former UN official and advisor to the Mission of the Holy See to the UN, and his lovely wife Uda, a retired attorney, have quietly hosted the monthly, 3rd Wednesday UN Breakfast Meetings for Rotarians and their guests atop the German Mission Building and its breathtaking view of the East River, UN Headquarters and surroundings.
Josef has a unique talent in recruiting interesting speakers from among his former UN colleagues and acquaintances, while Uda assists her husband by selflessly awaiting the last arrival and collecting the fees before joining the group in the conference room.
Josef's chairmanship is professional but also friendly and unassuming. The only problem Josef regularly encounters is to adjourn the lively debates by the 10:00 deadline. Uda's patience and warmth add to the wonderful atmosphere created by a combination of intellectual stimulus, tasty food and pleasant service. Rotarians with an interest in politics, should absolutely attend one of these early morning meetings. Josef and Uda are models for all of us in their practice of warm Rotarian friendship, modesty and true "service above self."
Freedlee Kaplan Class of 2007
Fredlee grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, and moved to New York for graduate school. For professional and personal reasons, she stayed in NY and that's why we are lucky to have her as a fellow NY Rotarian. She graduated from Boston University with a degree in Psychology and earned two masters degrees at Columbia and Rutgers Universities respectively. She completed postgraduate studies in individual, psychodynamic psychotherapy for five years in New York. Following that training she completed post-graduate training in Marital and Family Therapy for 7 years in New York and Washington, DC.
Professionally, Fredlee practices family, couples and individual psychotherapy in private practice in Manhattan and Ridgewood, NJ. Her licenses are in Clinical Social Work, Psychology, and Marital and Family Therapy. For 21 years until 2004, she supervised psychiatric residents and psychology interns in Family Therapy in the Department of Psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center in NY. She continues to consult to businesses, educational institutions and hospitals in family and systems intervention.
Her interests include playing tennis, attending theater and musical performances and traveling "around the world." However, "Family relationships are primary for me," she says, "and that is followed by my interest in charitable work." When her brother, Barry, introduced her to his Rotary Club in Danvers, Mass. where he is a Board member, she decided to follow up with our New York Club and has been finding this experience very fulfilling and enjoys working with like-minded people.
"I am most interested in children's health and development. Projects that involve children through Rotary are compelling for me. Therefore, Vocation Day and Gift of Life are very important."
A source of pride for Fredlee is "the good relationship with my stepchildren, step grandchildren, and my first family, as well as my private practice which is thriving, challenging and extremely rewarding."

Our Longest Serving NY Rotarian
If your year of birth is after 1959, you may be interested to know that Werner Kobelt has been in the Rotary Club of New York for more years than you have been on this earth!
Werner is chairman of Nipkow & Kobelt, Inc. This is a garment & textile importing company that was founded by his father in the 1930’s. N&K began as a silk importing company and as expanded to man-made silk type fabrics and piece goods. Most of his imports come from Asia. The importing business is a natural for Werner because he was born in Japan, went to college in Shanghai during WWII and was Swiss Citizen at birth. He attended the French Jesuit University in Shanghai. (At age 9, he left Japan to attend boarding School in Switzerland.)
Werner was the son of Arnold is an only child. At French Jesuit University in Shanghai, he majored in Political Science and Economics and this was followed with a law degree. He is fluent in Japanese, German, French & English, of course.
As a young man, Werner served in the US Army which included a tour at the Pentagon. Following his active duty, he served in the reserve under the command of Julius Ochs Adler, the owner of the New York Times. Most of us only hear about notable past members but Werner served in our Rotary Club with Thomas Watson of IBM Fame, JC Penney and Norman Vincent Peale.
His NY Rotary accomplishments include serving many years as a director on the board plus as 1st and 2nd Vice President. He also served two terms as a trustee of our Foundation. After the required time off, he was he was re-elect for another 3 year term where is presently serving.
Werner is married to Nora and together they have raised four children. Son Arnold works in the business with Werner and is the company President. Arnold lives in Rye, NY. His two sisters and brother live in Whitefish, MT, Fort Collins, CO & Winchester, MA. A former, avid tennis player, Werner has switched to playing golf with Nora. They are members of the Westchester Country Club in Westchester County. He proudly tells us that Nora recently hit a “Hole-in-One” at the 4th hole of the Westchester Golf Club.

Born in Izmir Turkey, Bora completed his undergrad studies at Istanbul Technical University with aCivil and Environmental Engineering degree. In 1988, Bora moved to the US to complete his MSCE and PH. D in the West Virginia University and graduated in 1998 from the Civil Engineering department with a specialization in geo-technical studies. After finishing the grad school, he became an independent software consultant specialized in SAP for 2 years before joining the Deloitte.
His long term goal is to own a small luxury beach resort and to make a contribution to society. Bora also enjoys traveling the world, reading history, playing soccer, and scuba diving.
When he first came to the US Bora spoke with very little English, but was still able to complete his Ph.D. requirements and changed his profession from Civil Engineering to Information Technology/Computers field after the graduation.
Bora is also a certified SCUBA instructor and a proud in volunteer for the American Heart Association Walk preparation.

Terry Mayer class of 2006 is a Bellologists and president of the New York Chapter of the American Bell Association International; a group of collectors who fancy bells, and the fancier the better.
The collectors talked about bells as a part of American history, from church towers in Colonial days to locomotives that joined the East and the West. Now,, the president of the New York chapter, bells are finding their way into museums and shops that specialize in collectibles.
Ms. Mayer's own bells, which she designs as jewelry in the shape of fruits, animals and seashells, are finding their way into stores like Tiffany & Company. (Ms. Mayer also invents words - ''bellologists,'' for example.) A regular feature of the bell association's twice-yearly meetings is ''bell and tell,'' or ''show and bell.''

Thomas V. McConnon -Class of 1984- is President of Thomas Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Company Inc., one of city's major suppliers of appliance sales and mechanical services to New York's residential real estate industry. His company offers a fleet of service vehicles and seasoned technicians serving the the five boroughs, Nassau and Westchester counties.
Tom was first introduced to Rotary while he was serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer as an instructor at the St. Vincent Technical college in the the West Indies in the early 1980s. It was there that he partnered with a International Rotary matching grant project to develop a supply of well-trained technicians with Canadian and West Indian Rotary Clubs. He has been an active member ever since.
He is always proud to say that he is a fifth generation New Yorker. He grew up in Queens, graduated from New York University in 1979, and lives on Long Island with his wife and children.

Victor Rodriguez - Class of 2007 Victor grew up in New York City, and has subsequently had the opportunity to live in New Jersey, Chicago, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Dallas and Long Island. He has B.A. in Religion from Rutgers University and an M.A. in Religion from the University of Chicago Divinity School.
Victor has worked for the Federal Government for the past 15 years. He is currently the Director of Operations for the Northeast Region of the U.S. Department of Labor. His specialty is anti-discrimination and he is personally involved in most major discrimination cases for the Northeast Region.
He enjoys writing, and is currently writing an historical fiction novel. He is an elder in the Journey Church, and is involved with the Penn Club, the Oxonian Society, and the Federal Managers Association.

Helen will go down in history, not only as the first woman President of the Rotary Club of New York, but as the President who was unexpectedly faced with the greatest challenge--an unprecedented terror attack on our own city.Without a second thought, Helen innately knew what she had to do on that fateful day of 9/11. She "rose to the occasion", taking the reigns of leadership in a most admirable and awesome way.Her focus became threefold-instilling team spirit in our own club members, giving immediate aid to victims and rescue workers, and coordinating money contributions for the neediest. At the same time, she insisted that all activity be communicated, daily, to the world through our own "up to the minute" website. She interviewed for a six page article in "The Rotarian" magazine entitled, "Ground Zero", which highlighted the heroic actions of individual members who volunteered at "The Pit".Our weekly club meetings became a patriotic and "safe haven" for members, rescue workers, and victims' families, where hope, camaraderie, and spirit were shared, the effects of which are still felt today.Helen, personally, received over 400 E-mails from Rotarians around the globe, and answered them well into the nights, encouraging contributions to the "Disaster Relief Fund" which she set up with our Foundation. This Fund accumulated over 1.4 million dollars, and more importantly, was distributed in a timely fashion to a variety of needy people.Through the teamwork of special committees which she set up, over 50 rescue workers were sent on "rest vacations" to Rotary clubs in New Zealand, England and Nantucket. We helped the Delta Club distribute hundreds of quilts to victims' children and had 8 families "adopted" by Michigan Rotarians. Helen met with her "9/11 committee" every single week before the regular luncheons.Our successful accomplishments prompted Rotary clubs throughout the States to invite Helen as a speaker. Francis Rienzo - Class of 2007
I was born in Manhattan but raised in a suburb of Washington, D.C. After graduating from Georgetown University in 1989, I spent a year volunteering in Nicaragua. In 1997 I earned a Masters of Business Administration from Stanford.
My wife Paige and I moved to Manhattan last year, Paige to pursue an acting career and I to search for my next project. Over the years I have held several different positions in various industries, including chief executive of a children’s non-profit, commercial real estate developer, and lobbyist for a pharmaceutical company.
In March I joined Juice Energy, a quickly growing start-up company that supplies electricity to commercial and industrial users and advises its clients on how to incorporate green energy into their business strategies. Paige (aka Paige Rien, pronounced “Ryan”) is now the co-host of a television show on HGTV called “Hidden Potential”. We are expecting our first child in January.
Beyond preparing for our new arrival, my interests include traveling to new places where American tourists are seldom found and buying and restoring old houses, which helps soothe the real estate junkie in me.
I am also energized by time spent among friends new and old. As such, I am active in both Stanford and Georgetown Alumni organizations. My favorite pastime, however, is spending time with my siblings and their families.
Clearly my greatest achievement was convincing Paige to marry me. Aside from that, I think I am most proud of my work with the Fabretto Children’s Foundation, an organization that assists impoverished children in Nicaragua. As the foundation's first employee in the U.S., I increased annual revenue from $190,000 to $2.5 million, transforming a small, barely organized “mom and pop” non-profit into a sustainable one.

Michael Trollan, a Rotarian since 2009, was born in the small Rocky Mountain town of Durango, Colorado. He went to high school in South Texas, on the border to Mexico, and the moved north to Texas A&M University and settling for a while in Dallas, Texas. He has long wanted to move to New York City, so three years ago he moved here -- with no job, no place to live, and without knowing a soul. He was able to pull it off, and is now living
comfortably and happily a few blocks from Union Square.
Professionally, Michael has spent over 12 years in the Internet industry. He owns and runs a small website consulting firm which during peak times sees just under 20 employees and contractors. The firm has built websites ranging from small one-man businesses all the
way up to numerous Fortune 500 websites, including Verizon.com in 2004, MarthaStewart.com in 2007, TimeWarnerCable.com and RoadRunner.com in 2008.
He also runs a peer-to-peer coaching group called Manhattan Board of Advisors, which provides members with their own personal board of advisors. He is involved in a handful of non-profits, most notably Toastmasters International, which helps its members develop public speaking and leadership skills. For Toastmasters, he was recently elected as a Division Governor, where he and his staff of 6 oversee the development of 650 members in Brooklyn and lower Manhattan. President Camilo has gained years of experience by serving our club in many capacities. He served on the New York Rotary Foundation as a trustee for six years. He was a member of the Board Directors for two full terms plus one year.
Past- President Camilo, or Cam, as his friends call him, is a physician with specialties in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He did his undergraduate work at the University of San Carlos in Cebu, Philippines. For medical school, he graduated from Cebu Institute of Technology, College of Medicine. Right after graduation, he came to the United States in 1967 and began his post-graduate training with an internship at Long Island Jewish Hospital, followed by 3 years of residency in Internal Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital. He studied for two additional years as fellow in the Cardiology, sat for their Boards and earned the title “Diplomate in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.” Only the best of best earn this prestigious designation. He began practicing in 1973 in New York City.
Dr. Uy is also a Fellow of NY Academy of Medicine and Fellow of the American Academy of Cardiology. He is an Associate Attending Physician at Lenox Hill Hospital and also serves as school physician for The Brearley School attended by his daughters.
Twenty years ago, one of New York City’s most eligible bachelors was invited by friends to what turned out to be a life changing party. This is where he met Mary Lynn Chu, also a physician. They have been married for 20 years and have been raising three children.
After graduation from the University of the Philippines, Mary Lynn became a Neurologist with Special Qualification in Child Neurology plus a subspecialty in Electrophysiology and Neuromuscular Disorders. She is Associate Professor in Neurology of NYU School of Medicine and works at NYU-Hospital for Joint Diseases. Together they have three outstanding children.

Richard Sianburg Class of 1966
Jean Sardo Transfer from Rotary club in Miami
Jean was born of Italian parents in the Southeast of France near Grenoble where the 1968 Winter Olympics were held. He grew up in a small Alpine town of 6,000 called Vizille. With the Alps as a backdrop to his every day life he developed an everlasting sense of appreciation for “mother nature”. It is worth mentioning this town of Vizille as it is the cradle of the French Revolution. It was from this humble place that crowds began marching and protesting against the ruling and despotic French monarchy and ended in Paris where they took down the Bastille on July 14, 1789.
In 1966, Jean joined his father in Boston, Massachusetts. his dad had previously arrived to explore the possibility of investing in a local shoe factory. Mesmerized by the American way of life which Jean enjoyed to the fullest, he enrolled at Babson College and after graduation he was convinced to stay in the United States.
After college, Jean maintained the entrepreneurial spirit of his family starting up a Motivational Travel Agency in Chicago, a small optical chain in Florida and a restaurant in Coral Gables. For the next fifteen years, he moved to Mexico City, Mexico. With three other American associates the team managed a series of projects for their own company which dealt in natural gas distribution and power generation. In 1999 they were approached by Toyota Motors to assist them in the development and building of their first Latin American assembly plant. Jean was involved in the site selection, environmental impact, feasibility and infrastructure studies. He also managed all of the necessary permits up to the Certificate of Occupancy. After 4 and ½ years of intense performances and demanding schedules, the first Tacoma Pick Up Truck rolled out of the assembly line.
In 2005, Jean permanently returned to NYC. No longer willing to intensely travel he decided to seek an occupation that would be as close to his apartment as possible so he ended up in a neighborhood real estate agency no more that 30 feet away from his front door! In September it will be a year that I have been involved in this new service industry having closed 52 transactions including rentals of apartments, commercial retail spaces and brownstone sales.
Jean makes it very clear that he has been sharing his life with a wonderful woman, Andrea and his charming daughter, Désirée who is a teacher in the Miami-Dade County School System.
While his interests are too many to list here however Jean prides himself in guiding young adults toward education. Of the many youngsters he has helped in Mexico, two have taken our support very seriously; one has successfully passed her bar exam, speaking seven languages fluently and the other has just graduated as a dentist. The only thing Jean has asked of them is to be respectful of all people and to help others as they themselves have been helped and guided.
Jean and his wife also love to travel for pleasure, discovering new destinations, observing and experiencing how other people live. To him, Rotary is “the key to new friendships” allowing us to instantly be in touch with a million or more persons of similar characters and all dedicated to good will. And one of his coined motto is: “Discovery is the essence of youth”. He love to find out new things not only to stay young and abreast of developments but also to review the old and the forgotten.
One of his goals is that every day to look forward helping a total stranger, no matter how minute an action it may be, such as helping a lady in carrying her baby’s carriage up and out of the metro or making change for someone when he feels the extreme time pressures of not doing so. His belief is that if every day each one of us would do a favor for another person then there would be a lot less animosity on earth.

Dan was born in Brooklyn NY and attended Brooklyn Prep and Fairfield Univ. He am the president of Peak Performance Strategies, LLC and The Confidential Sounding Board, where he assists individuals and companies in achieving the competitive edge quickly through enhancing both personal and business performance. He have been described as "a noted performance consultant, author, speaker and executive coach."
Many of Dan's clients include executives, professional athletes (NFL, NHL, PGA) and performers throughout the United States, Asia, South America, and Europe. Dan truly enjoy the uniqueness and diversity of his practice and continually defying conventional wisdom. Eleanor Kramer Sypher Class of 2008 was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She decided at age ten that she wanted to live in New York. She moved here after receiving a B.A. from Smith College in Northampton, MA. Once in New York she taught Latin while studying at Columbia University for her M.A. (in Latin) and for her Ph.D. (in Greek and Latin). Since teaching jobs were scarce in colleges, she became a book editor, and then taught in a secondary school for eleven years when her daughter was small. By then, she was yawning in her own classes and was determined to make a change. She spent six months networking and then was offered a job at the van Ameringen Foundation, where she has been happily employed for 18 years.Eleanor is the Executive Director of the Ameringen Foundation which gives grants of about $4 million a year for clinical services and advocacy for the mentally ill and emotionally disturbed in metropolitan New York and Philadelphia. Her interests, however, remain strongly centered on education, her own (through reading, travel, opera, and theatre) and that of children. She is actively involved with a charter school in the South Bronx.In addition, to counter-balance her job as a grant giver, she has raised funds continuously for her church and for the school. Eleanor is amateur watercolorist and studies at the National Academy.Eleanor is one of the founders, and President of the Board, of the Bronx Charter School for Children. It opened in September of 2004 with Kindergarten and First graders, and, by adding one grade a year, will be at capacity in school year 2008-2009 with 396 Kindergarteners through Fifth graders.Her immediate family consists of herself and her daughter, Eleanor Holbrook Sypher. They are the 7th and 8th generation of Eleanors. Young E lives in mid-town and they visit often.Last fall Don Everett invited Eleanor to come to the New York Rotary lunch meetings, and she subsequently became a member. She enjoys the quality of the speakers, and the camaraderie of the members. Eleanor is drawn to the philanthropic efforts of the Club (especially the Gift of Life program).
Jean Sardo Transfer from Rotary club in MiamiJean was born of Italian parents in the Southeast of France near Grenoble where the 1968 Winter Olympics were held. He grew up in a small Alpine town of 6,000 called Vizille. With the Alps as a backdrop to his every day life he developed an everlasting sense of appreciation for “mother nature”. It is worth mentioning this town of Vizille as it is the cradle of the French Revolution. It was from this humble place that crowds began marching and protesting against the ruling and despotic French monarchy and ended in Paris where they took down the Bastille on July 14, 1789.
In 1966, Jean joined his father in Boston, Massachusetts. his dad had previously arrived to explore the possibility of investing in a local shoe factory. Mesmerized by the American way of life which Jean enjoyed to the fullest, he enrolled at Babson College and after graduation he was convinced to stay in the United States.
After college, Jean maintained the entrepreneurial spirit of his family starting up a Motivational Travel Agency in Chicago, a small optical chain in Florida and a restaurant in Coral Gables. For the next fifteen years, he moved to Mexico City, Mexico. With three other American associates the team managed a series of projects for their own company which dealt in natural gas distribution and power generation. In 1999 they were approached by Toyota Motors to assist them in the development and building of their first Latin American assembly plant. Jean was involved in the site selection, environmental impact, feasibility and infrastructure studies. He also managed all of the necessary permits up to the Certificate of Occupancy. After 4 and ½ years of intense performances and demanding schedules, the first Tacoma Pick Up Truck rolled out of the assembly line.
In 2005, Jean permanently returned to NYC. No longer willing to intensely travel he decided to seek an occupation that would be as close to his apartment as possible so he ended up in a neighborhood real estate agency no more that 30 feet away from his front door! In September it will be a year that I have been involved in this new service industry having closed 52 transactions including rentals of apartments, commercial retail spaces and brownstone sales.
Jean makes it very clear that he has been sharing his life with a wonderful woman, Andrea and his charming daughter, Désirée who is a teacher in the Miami-Dade County School System.
While his interests are too many to list here however Jean prides himself in guiding young adults toward education. Of the many youngsters he has helped in Mexico, two have taken our support very seriously; one has successfully passed her bar exam, speaking seven languages fluently and the other has just graduated as a dentist. The only thing Jean has asked of them is to be respectful of all people and to help others as they themselves have been helped and guided.
Jean and his wife also love to travel for pleasure, discovering new destinations, observing and experiencing how other people live. To him, Rotary is “the key to new friendships” allowing us to instantly be in touch with a million or more persons of similar characters and all dedicated to good will. And one of his coined motto is: “Discovery is the essence of youth”. He love to find out new things not only to stay young and abreast of developments but also to review the old and the forgotten.
One of his goals is that every day to look forward helping a total stranger, no matter how minute an action it may be, such as helping a lady in carrying her baby’s carriage up and out of the metro or making change for someone when he feels the extreme time pressures of not doing so. His belief is that if every day each one of us would do a favor for another person then there would be a lot less animosity on earth.

Dan Schaffer - Class of 2007
Dan was born in Brooklyn NY and attended Brooklyn Prep and Fairfield Univ. He am the president of Peak Performance Strategies, LLC and The Confidential Sounding Board, where he assists individuals and companies in achieving the competitive edge quickly through enhancing both personal and business performance. He have been described as "a noted performance consultant, author, speaker and executive coach."
Many of Dan's clients include executives, professional athletes (NFL, NHL, PGA) and performers throughout the United States, Asia, South America, and Europe. They describe PPS as “street smart strategies for a competitive edge.” The Confidential Sounding Board supports leaders who are truly “alone at the top,” outnumbered, and want to turn the odds in their favor.
Dan truly enjoy the uniqueness and diversity of his practice and continually defying conventional wisdom. He take joy in thinking backwards, helping friends separate themselves from the pack and narrow the gap between work and play, helping them identify and get what they want. He say "friends" because most of my clients become friends.
Dan also has a wonderful fiancée & business associate, five great children (two girls and three boys), and twelve grandchildren.
One accomplishment that he is particularly proud of is that his book How Do We Tell The Children has had four stars on Amazon since 1986 and helped so many people, from the Pentagon to caregivers worldwide, comfort children in times of loss.
His current interests and goals include finishing a book CLICK! Getting the Edge and Keeping It, working on a screenplay with a major studio in Hollywood, and consulting for a variety of movie projects with Angel Light Pictures. Dan said that he thought "it would be nice to come out from under the radar but my clients chose to keep me a secret. At the end of the day it’s their call."
